What is Maca Powder?
Maca is a root vegetable that is native to the mountains of Peru. It has been used for centuries by the Incas and other indigenous people of the Andes for its purported health benefits. Today, maca powder is becoming increasingly popular as a natural way to boost energy, improve mood, and enhance fertility. Let’s take a closer look at this new superfood to see what all the hype is about.
Maca Powder – Nutritional Profile
Maca powder is an excellent source of vitamins B, C, and E, as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. It also contains amino acids and protein. One of the unique things about maca powder is that it is a adaptogen, which means it helps the body to adapt to stressors by normalizing hormone levels. This makes maca an ideal supplement for athletes or anyone who wants to improve their energy and stamina.
Maca Powder – Potential Health Benefits
As mentioned above, maca has been used for centuries in Peru for its purported health benefits. Some of the most well-known potential health benefits of maca include:
- enhanced fertility
- improved sexual function
- increased energy and stamina
- improved mood
- reduced anxiety and depression
- Lower blood pressure
- Reduced inflammation
There is some scientific evidence to support these claims. For example, one study found that maca supplementation improved sexual function in men with mild erectile dysfunction. Another study found that maca improved sexual desire in postmenopausal women. However, more research is needed to confirm these effects.
How to use maca powder?
Maca powder can be added to many different types of foods and drinks. Some people enjoy adding it to their morning smoothie, while others like to mix it in with their oatmeal or yogurt. It can also be used as an ingredient in baking recipes.
Some tips for using maca powder: start with a small amount (1/4-1/2 teaspoon) and add more as needed; if you’re new to using maca powder, it might take some time for your body to adjust; over time, you may find that you need less maca powder as your body becomes used to it.
What does maca powder taste like?
Maca powder has a slightly sweet and earthy taste that is slightly nutty. Some people also say it has a chocolate-like taste. It can be added to smoothies, juices, yogurt, or baked goods.
How much maca powder can you take per day?
You can take up to 3 tablespoons of maca powder per day. However, it’s always a good idea to start with a smaller dose and work your way up gradually to find the dosage that works best for you. Some people experience gastrointestinal side effects, such as diarrhea, when they consume too much maca powder. So it’s important to listen to your body and adjust your dosage accordingly.
Maca powder is generally considered safe, but it’s always best to speak with a health care professional before starting any new supplement.

It’s very tasty, I put a spoonful in my porridge, I can feel the positive difference to my body
I love this product! It adds a really nice, biscuit-like taste when added to my protein smoothies. I like to add a tablespoon ( I think you can work your way up to adding two for ultimate health benefits) into my roots and shoots vanilla protein shakes with rice milk and a teaspoon of no sugar chocolate spread. So good!
Very fine powder means it mixes in well with liquida or yoghurts, and isn’t gritty like other brands. It is a little bitter in taste than some other Maca powders i’ve tried but maybe it means it more beneficial/stronger.
Definitely has improved my alertness and energy levels
