    This is fantastic value for money. I took ashwagandha a few years ago in capsule form when I was suffering badly for M E and PTSD and I started to get better, I recently found that this powder could be purchased loose and added to smoothies etc, as only a small amount is required this will last for months and is easy to use and very calming to ease stress and anxiety. I would not hesitate to recommend ashwagandha to anyone bothered with their nerves as it’s a natural product and helps to control high cortisol which for me also causes a large belly as apparently fat deposits in the stomach due to high cortisol. I also experience a lot of upper back, neck and shoulder tension ( think of the saying “the weight of the world on your shoulders “) it’s been very therapeutic for me in the past and I look forward to the same benefits again.

What is Ashwagandha?

This herb is from the nightshade family. The evergreen shrub is small and plump with oval leaves, yellow green flowers and small red orange fruits. Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera) is an exotic herb that is native to India, but this herb can also be found in the arid regions of the Middle East and North Africa. Today however, it is also grown in mild climates including the US. The herb is known by several names: Winter Cherry, Poison Gooseberry and Indian Ginseng. This last tag name was given to ashwagandha on account of its powerful nutrients and amazing health benefits. However, ashwagandha and ginseng are botanically unrelated.

Ashwagandha, which is typically derived from the roots and leaves of the plant, has been used in ayurvedic medicine for over 4,000 years. The ancients have utilised this herb to treat a very wide variety of conditions such as an energiser, rejuvenating tonic, sedative, anti-inflammatory agent and many more. Because of this, they also considered it a “magical herb.” Ashwagandha is best known for its restorative effects and nourishing nature. Traditionally, this “rejuvenative” herb is prescribed to people who are recovering from illnesses.

How much ashwagandha powder should i take per day?

Start with a low dose and gradually increase the amount you take as needed. It’s generally recommended to start with 1/2 – 1 teaspoon per day and then work your way up to 1-2 teaspoons per day. Take ashwagandha for at least 2 weeks before assessing its benefit. If you don’t experience any benefits after taking ashwagandha for several weeks, discontinue use.
